The Mets are calling up power-hitting switch-hitter Ronny Mauricio to work into their infield rotation. The 24-year-old takes the roster spot of third baseman Mark Vientos, who appeared to injure his hamstring while running out a ground ball in Los Angeles on June 2. Mauricio spent September 2023 in the big leagues—he recorded the Mets’ hardest-hit ball that season—but missed the entire 2024 season after having ACL reconstruction surgery on his knee. He was mashing at Triple-A Syracuse prior to his callup, hitting .515/.564/.818 with a homer, three doubles and four stolen bases in nine games. Mauricio plays second base and third base and brings big power, especially when batting lefthanded.
