Less than two years after he was picked in the supplemental fourth round, Red Sox second baseman Kristian Campbell to a contract extension that covers his 2025-2032 seasons with club options that could include 2023 and 2034 as well. Alex Speier reports that Campbell will receive $60 million guaranteed ($56 million from 2025-2032 and a $4 million buyout if his 2023 team option is not exercised). This means the Red Sox have locked up one of the best prospects in baseball just days after the Red Sox reached a contract extension with lefthander Garrett Crochet. Campbell ranks as the No. 4 prospect in baseball, and was Baseball America’s 2024 Minor League Player of the Year. He is hitting .375/.500/.688 in his first 20 MLB plate appearances. Because Campbell made his MLB debut before signing this extension, he remains eligible for the Prospect Performance Incentive (PPI) pick. If Campbell wins rookie of the year this season, he would earn the Red Sox a draft pick at the end of the first round. Jackson Chourio and Colt Keith were not PPI eligible last season because they signed long-term contract extensions before making their MLB debuts.
