Jared Jones Touches 99 MPH, Strikes Out Two
The Pirates’ No. 3 prospect worked a scoreless 1.2 innings on Wednesday, striking out two and walking two. Jones sat 97.8 mph in the truncated outing and touched 99.6 mph on his fastball. He generated two whiffs against his slider that ranged from 86 to 90 mph on the day. Jones is one of the Pirates’ top pitching prospects, but as a non-roster invitee he’s unlikely to make the opening day rotation. Jones will likely return to Triple-A with an ETA later this summer.
