First baseman C.J. Kayfus spent the second half of last season at Double-A Akron and resumed the level at the outset of this season. Now, the 23-year-old lefthanded hitter is moving up to Triple-A Columbus. Kayfus batted .364/.475/.591 with a home run, 11 walks and 14 strikeouts in 18 games for Akron. He led the Eastern League in batting average, on-base percentage and with a 1.066 OPS. Columbus’ home park plays favorably for righthanded power but is neutral for lefthanded hitters like Kayfus.
