Guardians’ Parker Messick Shuts Down Reading
Double-A Akron lefthander Parker Messick lowered his Eastern League ERA to 1.83 with six scoreless innings against Reading. Messick have not allowed a run in five of his nine Double-A outings. The only hit Messick allowed was an Erick Brito single, and he then picked Brito off first base. The only actual trouble he ran into was in the second when he walked a batter and hit another. But he struck out Ethan Wilson and induced a ground out from Brito to thwart that threat. Messick is 8-6, 2.93 overall this year with a .220 opponents average and 134 strikeouts and 34 walks in 107.1 innings.
