Edward Florentino Continues His Ascent
Last year, Pirates outfielder Edward Florentino was one of the brightest prospects in the Dominican Summer League. This year, he’s upped his game a notch or two. After bulldozing the competition in the Florida Complex League, Florentino moved to full-season ball on June 21. He’s faced stiffer tests in the Florida State League, but on Tuesday he took further steps toward achieving his upside. Facing Fort Myers, Florentino went 3-for-3 and fell a triple shy of the cycle. The home run was a majestic blast, a 106 mph searing liner over the wall in the left-center field alleyway. It was his first FSL home run. He also stole a base.
