Cardinals’ Quinn Mathews Impresses In Double-A Debut
Making his first start for Double-A Springfield, Cardinals lefthander Quinn Mathews was once again in complete control. He allowed just one hit in five innings. Mathews retired the first seven batters he faced and faced the minimum through 4.2 innings. He walked Victor Labrada with two outs in the fifth. Labrada then stole second and scored when Mathews committed a throwing error while trying to retire Jack Anchia on a comebacker to the mound. That was ruled a single, which was the only hit of the night Mathews allowed. Mathews also was charged with an unearned run in the sixth as Ben Williamson reached on a fielding error by shortstop Jeremy Rivas, stole second and eventually scored on a single by Harry Ford off reliever Ryan Shreve. Mathews is now 6-2, 2.03 between stops at Low-A Palm Beach, High-A Peoria and Double-A Springfield.
