Prospect Report: Kjerstad Stays Hot In AFL

Heston Kjerstad, OF, Orioles: Through the first two weeks in the AFL, Heston Kjerstad was one of the league’s top performers. On the first day of the third week, things stayed the same. The Baltimore prospect and Scottsdale outfielder hit an inside-the-park home run off of Mariners prospect Bryan Woo on Monday as part of a four-hit effort in the Scorpions’ win over Peoria. He leads the AFL in hits (19), total bases (35), extra-base hits (eight) and RBIs (13) and is tied with Matt Mervis for the league lead in home runs (four). 

Joe Mack, C, Marlins: Injuries cost Mack much of the 2022 season, but he’s making up for lost time in the AFL. On Monday, the 19-year-old backstop clubbed his third home run of the AFL, placing him second behind Heston Kjerstad and Matt Mervis in the league. The three home runs in eight games are two shy of the total he produced in 44 regular-season games. 

Cal Conley, SS, Braves: Conley went 3-for-5 with an inside-the-park home run on Monday, joining teammate Heston Kjerstad in the inside-the-park club. The effort further cemented Conley’s place on the AFL leaderboards as the season neared its halfway point. After two weeks and a game, the 23-year-old Texas Tech product is sporting a .488 on-base percentage and has smacked four doubles while accumulating 20 total bases.
