Sunday’s Prospect Performers

Julio Rodriguez, OF, Mariners: Just announce his spot on the Opening Day roster. If there was any doubt that he’s one of the better hitters in Mariners’ camp, Rodriguez solidified himself by going 3-for-4 with a double and home run. He has seven extra-base hits (four doubles, three home runs) and is hitting .419/.471/.839.

Jeremy Peña, SS, Astros: Peña hit his first two home runs of the spring on Sunday. He may not have homered before Sunday, but Peña has shown signs he’s ready to replace Carlos Correa. Peña is hitting .389/.421/.778.

Spencer Torkelson, 1B, Tigers: Torkelson hit his first home run of the spring on Sunday after learning he had made the Opening Day roster on Saturday. Tork is hitting .286/.400/.536.

MacKenzie Gore, LHP, Padres: Pitching in relief, Gore had his first rough outing of the spring. He gave up a grand slam to Sheldon Neuse, which explains his four runs allowed on four hits and two walks in three innings. He did strike out five.

Mickey Moniak, OF, Phillies: Moniak has shown more power this spring than he’s ever shown before. He hit two more home runs on Sunday. His five home runs this spring are tied for fourth most in the majors. His power display and the trade of Adam Haseley has cleared the path for a likely spot on Philadelphia’s roster.
