Prospect Report: Chamberlain Continues Scoreless Streak

Werner Blakely, SS, Angels: A 2020 fourth-rounder out of Detroit, Blakely had a standout first half of the season before going down with injury in July and missing nearly two months. Over nine games in the AFL, Blakely has performed fairly well, hitting .250 with a .400 OBP. Yesterday Blakely went 2-for-5, reached base four times and stole a base. 

Edouard Julien, 2B Twins: Julien is coming off a standout 2022 season where he hit 15 home runs, stole 15 bases and got on base 40% of the time. He’s continued his strong play in the Fall League, hitting .346 with a .541 on-base percentage. Last night Julien connected for a pair of doubles and scored twice for Glendale. 

Victor Mesa, OF, Marlins: Signed to tremendous fanfare out of Cuba in 2018, Mesa was the less heralded of the two Mesa brothers, but since coming stateside he’s proven to be the better prospect. Mesa has flashed some power as a member of the Solar Sox. He went 2-for-5 with two triples and a walk yesterday, as he’s looking to turn a corner after a mediocre season  

Nick Yorke, 2B, Red Sox: After entering the season as a top 50 prospect, Yorke’s 2022 couldn’t have gone worse. He dealt with injuries and struggled throughout the season before accepting an invitation to the Arizona Fall League. Over a dozen games Yorke has found himself hitting .326/.421/.457. Yesterday Yorke went 2-for-5, with a double and a walk.

Christian Chamberlain, LHP, Royals: Things didn’t go as planned for Chamberlain this season, as he struggled with command and finished the year with an ERA north of six. Blessed with some of the best pure lefthanded stuff in the minor leagues, Chamberlain has found success in the AFL. Yesterday Chamberlain pitched another two scoreless innings, running his scoreless innings streak to 7.1 innings.
