Prospect Report: Cade Cavalli Has a Day To Forget

Wednesday's Prominent Prospect Performances:

Cade Cavalli, RHP, Nationals: Cavalli's first outing of the spring was excellent as he struck out six while allowing only one hit in three scoreless innings. His second outing was not so good (3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO). Yesterday's outing is one he will need to flush and forget, as he was a key part of the Cardinals' demolition of the Nats. Cavalli allowed eight hits in just 2.1 innings. He gave up a home run, hit a batter and also walked one. Cavalli allowed 11 runs, 10 of which were earned. If there was any consolation for him, veteran Anibal Sanchez (10 runs, 12 hits in 4 IP) had it just as bad.

Bryson Stott, 3B, Phillies: Stott is making a strong pitch for the Phillies' third base job. While playing both shortstop and third, he has picked up a hit in six of his eight games played this spring and also has more walks (five) than strikeouts (four). With Alec Bohm struggling, Stott appears to have a legitimate shot at the job—he's a better defender than Bohm and a better pure hitter as well. The question for Philadelphia is does it want to demote Bohm and see if he can fix some problems at the plate, even if doing so will likely further tank his already diminished trade value.

Josh Winder, RHP, Twins: The Twins starting pitching is still somewhat thin, even after the recent signing of Chris Archer. Winder is offering a sign that he may be able to help sooner or later. His second spring outing was nearly as good as his first. He sat 93-95 mph with his four-seam fastball and threw both his slider and changeup for strikes.
