With Wilson Ramos becoming a free agent at the end of the season, the Rays traded him to the Phillies for a player to be named later, giving the Phillies a short-term boost at the catching position for their playoff push.

PHILLIES ACQUIRE:

Wilson Ramos, C
Age: 30

Ramos was one of the top catchers in baseball in 2016, and after a down year last season, he has returned to his 2016 for again this year, with a .297/.346/.488 line in 315 plate appearances and 2.4 WAR, according to Baseball Reference. Ramos is currently on the disabled list with a hamstring injury but is expected to return in a couple of weeks. He should give the Phillies a significant upgrade from Jorge Alfaro, who has an 80 arm but has hit just .254/.305/.398 this season.
