Even after a roster overhaul in which they added Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto and Jean Segura, the Phillies’ offense has lagged this season. Their 136 home runs rank 23rd and put them just one longball ahead of the Orioles. The team tried to remedy that issue earlier this season with the acquisition of Jay Bruce, and it did so again on deadline day by prying Corey Dickerson from the Pirates.

In return, the Pirates will receive a player to be named later and international bonus money.

Fresh off a two-home run game that doubled his season total, Dickerson will likely move into a fourth outfielder’s role with the Phillies. He and Jay Bruce each are lefthanded hitters with power, and Bruce is reportedly near a return from a strained right oblique that has kept him out for the last couple of weeks. Dickerson is a free agent after the season.
