Philadelphia Phillies 2025 International Class Scouting Report

With the MLB international signing period opening today, teams can officially begin to sign players in their 2025 class.
For Baseball America subscribers, we have scouting reports and player notes on the classes for all 30 teams, providing information on the big names to know in each class, as well as deeper cut players to watch.
The Phillies typically sign at least one seven-figure bonus player, but this year they are spreading their bonus pool space around more with all of their signings as of now set to be under $1 million.
Venezuelan shortstop Nieves Izaguirre has a compact 5-foot-10 build with a shortrighthanded swing to make frequent contact with a line-drive approach and gap power. He’s athletic and a plus runner who should stick in the middle infield, with some scouts thinking second base is his most likely home.
Dominican shortstop Elias Marrero has a quick, compact swing from the left side. There’s occasional power from his 6-foot frame, but it’s a hit-over power offensive profile. Marreros’ bat is ahead of his defense, but he should be able to stick in the dirt, whether it’s at shortstop or possibly second base.
Venezuelan catcher Deivis Velasquez is an offensive-minded catcher who is strong for his age with a short righthanded swing, giving him a mix of hit and power for a young catcher. He has an average arm with his bat ahead of his glove.
A 6-foot-2 righthander with a strong, durable build for his age, righthander Geremi Viloria is one of the better pitchers in Venezuela for 2025. He has been up to 93 mph and shown feel for a slider. Viloria and Venezuelan outfielder Dayber Cruceta both have breakout potential. Cruceta will need to add more strength to his skinny frame, but he has promising hitting traits and uses his hands well at the plate to make frequent contact and perform well in games. Leonardo Carpio is a corner outfielder from Venezuela who stands out for his righthanded power potential.
