MLB Spring Breakout 2025: How To Watch, Schedule & Roster Analysis For Every Team

After a successful debut last year, MLB’s highly-popular Spring Breakout series returns for what figures to be a star-studded encore in 2025.
The goal for Spring Breakout is as simple as it is exciting: gather the game’s top prospects and pit them head-to-head in a series of exhibitions played across Cactus and Grapefruit League stadiums. This year, over two-thirds of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects are featured on rosters, including star names like Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell, Jesus Made, Colt Emerson, Chase Dollander, Bubba Chandler and lots more.
Every MLB organization is represented by a number of high-upside prospects, so no matter your favorite team, the Spring Breakout series is a great way for fans to get an up-close and personal look at the game’s next wave of big league stars.
This year’s games are set to begin on Thursday, March 13 and will feature 16 matchups over four days. Read on below for the complete schedule and expected team rosters.

Red Sox at Rays
When: Thursday March 13th, 7:05 PM ET
Where: Charlotte Sports Park, Port Charlotte, FL.
What To Watch For: From a collection of talent standpoint, this is one of the premier games this spring. The Red Sox “Big Three” of Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer are all participating. In addition to that, 14 of their top 15 prospects will be featured in this game. The Red Sox lineup has loads of firepower beyond just the trio of Anthony, Campbell and Mayer. Jhostynxon Garcia, Franklin Arias, Yoeilin Cespedes and Mikey Romero can all impact the game at the plate, giving the Red Sox good positional depth. While the Red Sox pitching staff lacks star power, it’s a deep group led by David Sandlin, Hunter Dobbins, Payton Tolle, Juan Valera, Connelly Early and more. The Rays feature their entire top 10 prospects, as well as thirteen of their top 15. The highlight for the Rays is the trio of Carson Williams, Xavier Issac and spring training star Chandler Simpson. The Rays group also features one of the strongest pitching staffs among teams in the event. How Santiago Suarez, Jackson Baumeister, Gary Gill Hill and Trevor Harrison handle a loaded Red Sox lineup will be must-watch material.

Cubs at Dodgers
When: March 13, 9:05 ET
Where: Camelback Ranch, Glendale, Ariz.
What To Watch For: No, Roki Sasaki won’t be in this game. He’s busy tuning up for his first regular season in the big leagues. Rest assured, these two groups will provide plenty of firepower. The Dodgers’ group is mostly populated by prospects from the lower levels of the minor leagues. Of the players on the roster who rank among BA’s Top 30, just one—lefty Jackson Ferris—has experience above the Class A levels. There’s plenty of upside in the group, but perhaps the most intriguing arm belongs to Hyun-Seok Jang, who has a powerful four-pitch mix which can be either amplified or muted depending on which way his control and command are trending that day. In the batter’s box, Emil Morales and Eduardo Quintero were among the best in the Dominican Summer and Arizona Complex leagues, respectively, and have very high upsides. On the Cubs’ side, all eyes will be on righty Cade Horton, who might have been fighting for a spot in the rotation were it not for a year short-circuited by injuries. If his form from 2023, his stock will rebound. He’ll be buttressed by catcher Moises Ballesteros and infielder James Triantos, a pair of upper-level prospects who can really hit. Both players should provide plenty of average, and Ballesteros complements his hittability with a heavy dose of thump, too. Righthander Jaxon Wiggins has an electric arsenal as well and could become a household name with a few crisp innings under the lights in Glendale.

Cardinals at Marlins
When: March 14, 12:10 ET
Where: Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, Jupiter, Fla.
What To Watch For: The Roger Dean Rivalry will not lack for prospect power. The Cardinals are flanked by BA Pitcher of the Year Quinn Mathews and sweet-swinging first-rounder JJ Wetherholt, who found the heat in Palm Beach quite welcoming. Mathews punched out 202 hitters in 2024 while ascending four levels, and Wetherholt racked up 18 extra-base hits (including eight home runs) in 36 Low-A games. The pair will be backed by electric shortstop Yairo Padilla, whose widely varied skill set led him to rank as the No. 2 prospect in the DSL. A strong performance against his counterparts from the Marlins could kick his ascent up a tick or two. The same goes for catcher Rainiel Rodriguez, a thumper who was one of five players in the DSL who finished with 10 or more home runs. The Marlins’ roster is headed by lefthander Thomas White, who was one of the best pitching prospect in the sport in 2024 and might finish 2025 as the best pitching prospect in the sport. White was the second part of Miami’s two-pronged prep attack at the top of the 2023 draft and has a mixture of stuff, savvy and strikes that could lead to a ceiling at the top of a rotation. If you’re looking for defense, keep your eye on Starlyn Caba, who plays shortstop better than anyone in the minor leagues. The Marlins also boast two of the best power brokers behind the plate in the minors. Eight catchers hit 20 or more homers in the minors last season. Two of them—Agustin Ramirez and Joe Mack—will play in this game.

Pirates at Phillies
When: March 14, 1:05 ET
Where: BayCare Ballpark, Clearwater, Fla.
What To Watch For: Last year, the Pittsburgh Pitching Factory produced Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes and standout righthander Jared Jones. This year, Bubba Chandler could join them. The Pirates’ top prospect leads their Spring Breakout roster, and is joined by Florida Complex League ERA champion Zander Mueth and lefty Hunter Barco. In the batter’s box, second baseman Termarr Johnson has flashed high-end potential throughout his career with frustrating inconsistency. His electric bat speed and big-time power makes him exactly the kind of player who could steal the show in this game. Also keep an eye out for 2024 first-rounder Konnor Griffin, a potential five-tool prospect who could rocket up the Top 100 Prospects with a little bit of polish in the coming years. The Phillies will be without Andrew Painter for this contest, but there’s plenty of talent to spare. Infielder Aidan Miller jumped from Low-A to Double-A in his first full season as a pro and showed a tantalizing combination of contact and impact along the way. Speedy outfielder Justin Crawford hit .313 in a season split between High-A and Double-A. If he can turn some of his grounders into line drives, he’ll take great strides toward actualizing his ceiling. Catcher Eduardo Tait is capable of turning around a mid-90s fastball and driving it out to all sectors of any park. Don’t be surprised if he’s up to the challenge posed by any of Pittsburgh’s enviable arms.

Nationals at Astros
When: March 14th, 2:05 PM ET
Where: CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches, West Palm Beach, FL.
What To Watch For: While neither of these lineups are particularly deep, there are some interesting potential matchups and a few big names. The Astros are led by recent trade acquisition and No. 1 prospect Cam Smith. The third baseman was acquired in the Kyle Tucker trade and has been impressive in early spring training games. He’s joined by other Astros Top 10 Prospects Jacob Melton, Brice Matthews and Walker Janek in the lineup. The pitching staff is headed off by the trio of Miguel Ullola, Ethan Pecko and Anderson Brito. All three of those pitchers boast fastballs with above-average to plus-plus grades. The Nationals have plenty of firepower within their pitching staff, as well, with flamethrower Jarlin Susana leading the way. Susana has the potential to hit 102+ mph and could sit 100 mph in a short one inning outing. He’s joined by lefthander Alex Clemmey and Tyler Stuart in the Nationals pitching group. Their lineup is solid with a foundation of Brady House, Seaver King and Luke Dickerson. It’s a talented and deep infield group making up for a lack of outfielders.

Athletics at Padres
When: March 14, 5:40 p.m. ET
Where: Peoria Sports Complex, Peoria, Ariz.
What To Watch For: The visiting A’s have a balanced roster in this game. Last year’s No. 4 overall pick Nick Kurtz ascended quickly through the system before a hamstring injury sidelined him. Kurtz has the potential to be in the majors by midsummer like Jacob Wilson before him. Colby Thomas, Denzel Clarke and Max Muncy are some of the more experienced bats in the system. On the pitching side, Luis Morales has been one of the system’s most impressive arms. Though ranked as the A’s No. 28 prospect, Shotaro Morii may be the most interesting player in the game being a two-way prospect. The Padres will have their prized international players Leodalis De Vries and Ethan Salas in the game. The lineup will also be enhanced with Cobb Hightower and Kavares Tears. San Diego fans will get the chance to see last year’s first-round pick Kash Mayfield, equipped with a fast ball that touches 97 mph, pitch in the game.

Mariners at Guardians
When: March 14, 8:05 p.m. ET
Where: Goodyear Ballparker, Goodyear, Ariz.
What To Watch For: The Mariners have the most exciting spring breakout roster in the Cactus League, having six Top 100 prospects playing in the showcase. Lazaro Montes, Seattle’s Minor League Player of the Year, can show off his pop like he did in spring training. Colt Emerson and Cole Young were two of the most consistent hitters in the system. Felnin Celesten made his pro debut in last year’s game before tearing up the Arizona Complex League. Harry Ford and Michael Arroyo round out the list. On the pitching side, Ryan Sloan and last year’s first-round selection Jurrangelo Cijntje are the standout arms. Travis Bazzana’s, last year’s No. 1 draft pick, will headline for the Guardians. Cleveland’s roster strength leans more hitter heavy, with Ralphy Velasquez and Angel Genao. Jaison Chourio, the brother of Jackson Chourio, showed to be a disciplined hitter with plenty of speed and tools to live up to the name his sibling has created. Jackson Humphries, Michael Kennedy and Josh Hartle are the lefthanded pitchers while Austin Peterson is the lone righty.

Royals at Diamondbacks
When: March 14, 8:05 p.m. ET
Where: Salt River Fields, Scottsdale, Ariz.
What To Watch For: Jac Caglinone is the highest-ranked player in this game. The Royals 2024 first-round pick doesn’t have one of the sweetest swings but can cause plenty of damage. Carter Jensen and Gavin Cross were also productive players last year for the Royals. Righthander Ben Kudrna has a fastball that reaches 97 mph and has strong secondary pitches to follow. Lefty Noah Cameron doesn’t have a speedy fastball, but his changeup has plenty of deception. The D-backs have one of the weaker rosters, but fans will get a chance to see Demetrio Crisantes, who is viewed as the best pure hitter in the system. Druw Jones bounced back by having a strong year in Low-A. Tommy Troy, Ryan Waldschmidt and Slade Caldwell round out the hitting group. Daniel Eagan, Yordin Chalas and Spencer Giesting are the top pitchers for Arizona.

Twins at Blue Jays
When: March 15, 1:07 PM ET
Where: TD Ballpark, Dunedin, Fla.
What To Watch For: The Twins roster will not feature Walker Jenkins and none of their top pitching prospects. But Twins fans will get a look at Luke Keaschall and recent draftees Kaelen Culpepper, Kyle DeBarge and Billy Amick. Infielder Brandon Winokur is an exciting name that could provide some fireworks. Overall, the Twins’ roster is thin and lacks notable pitching prospects. The Blue Jays, on the other hand, bring a rotation headed off by 2024 first round pick Trey Yesavage. Behind Yesavage, the Jays have Jake Bloss, Khal Stephen and Kendry Rojas—all notable pitchers in the Jays Top 10 prospects. The lineup will feature a strong trio comprised of Arjun Nimmala, Orelvis Martinez and Alan Roden. Nimmala is one of the biggest up arrow prospects entering the 2025 season and both Martinez and Roden are big league-ready bats who could see significant time with the Blue Jays.

Yankees at Orioles
When: March 15, 6:05 ET
Where: Ed Smith Stadium, Sarasota, Fla.
What To Watch For: Even with the graduation of Jackson Holliday, last year’s No. 1 prospect, the Orioles still have plenty of firepower on the farm. Their group is led by powerful catcher Samuel Basallo, the game’s No. 1 backstop prospect. He’s flanked by speedster Enrique Bradfield Jr., toolsy outfielder Vance Honeycutt and a flotilla of interesting arms, led by righties Keeler Morse, Nestor German and trade acquisition Patrick Reilly, as well lefty Luis De Leon. Morfe in particular has the potential to light up the radar gun. The Yankees are led by George Lombard Jr., their 2023 first-rounder who has been excellent this spring and was one of the buzziest talents among execs when assembling the Top 100 Prospects. This game also features the potential for New York to unveil four of its newest talents from the 2024 draft. Righthanders Ben Hess, Bryce Cunningham, Gage Ziehl and Greysen Carter were all taken by the Yankees in the first seven rounds of the draft but did not make their pro debuts. Spencer Jones put on a show in this game last year and is looking for a rebound after a tough 2024 season.

Rangers at Giants
When: March 15, 8:05 ET
Where: Scottsdale Stadium, Scottsdale, Ariz.
What To Watch For: This evening tilt has the potential to be one of the best games of the spring, pitting a pair of power brokers from the west against one another at Scottsdale Stadium. Shortstop Sebastian Walcott, the No. 1 hitting prospect in Texas’ system, will face off against a Giants club led by powerful first baseman Bryce Eldridge. Both sides feature a player who stood out in the Dominican Summer League in 2024. For San Francisco, that’s Jhonny Level, who hit the ball hard and often in his pro debut and was one of five players in the league with 10 or more home runs. Texas will counter with Yolfran Castillo, a contact merchant whose whiffs were rarer than an unassisted triple play. Even without Alejandro Rosario, who was lost for the season with elbow surgery, the Rangers offer plenty of intriguing options on the mound. In fact, Texas has a pair of Futures Gamers up its sleeve. Righties Winston Santos and Emiliano Teodo each upped their stock last summer and should be up to the challenges posed by Eldridge and his Giants brethren. Keep an eye, too, on righty David Davalillo, a crafty arm whose moxie and willingness to pound the zone helped him claim the minor league ERA title in 2024.

Angels at Cubs
When: March 15, 9:05 p.m. ET
Where: Sloan Park, Mesa, Ariz.
What To Watch For: With Christian Moore auditioning to make the Opening Day roster with the Angels, this game gives the phrase “a look into the future” a potential immediate effect. In fact, if it weren’t for a meniscus injury in his left knee, Moore could’ve been in the show last year. George Klassen, acquired in the Carlos Estevez trade, had an impressive showing last season and has continued to make improvements by compacting his wind up. International signees Joswa Lugo and Nelson Rada also show promise. For the Cubs, Moises Ballesteros can put on a show with his pop, and James Triantos is one of the more all-around players Chicago rosters. Pitching wise, Cade Horton looks to show he can still be electric even with injuries that set him back last season.

Tigers at Braves
When: March 16, 4:05 PM ET
Where: CoolToday Park, Venice, FL.
What To Watch For: This game features one of the strongest Spring Breakout rosters in the Tigers against arguably the most barren in the Braves. The Tigers roster features Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle, Bryce Rainer, Thayron Liranzo and Josue Briceno. This will likely give the Tigers one of the most stacked rosters this side of the Red Sox. While top prospect Jackson Jobe will not be in this year’s game, the Tigers do have Jaden Hamm, Troy Melton and Jake Miller. The Braves contingent is led by JR Ritchie who should be an interesting take against the Tigers loaded lineup. The rest of the roster is uninspiring with so many top prospects currently dealing with injuries for the Braves.

Mets at Nationals
When: March 16, 5:05 PM ET
Where: CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches, West Palm Beach, FL.
What To Watch For: This will be the Nationals second of two spring breakouts games. Who they deploy as pitchers across the two games will be an interesting element to look out for. As mentioned in the section covering the Astros vs. Nationals matchup, the Nats are led by a strong infield group and flamethrower Jarlin Susana at the front of their pitching corps. Neither Dylan Crews or Travis Sykora, the Nationals top two prospects, are on the roster. The Mets roster is missing Brandon Sproat but does feature a fun collection of prospects. The positional group boasts Jett Williams, Carson Benge, Ryan Clifford and Jeremy Rodriguez. Which is a group that could provide some sparks via speed on the bases and the long ball. The pitching staff lacks some of the big names but does feature Jonah Tong and lefthander Jonathan Santucci.

Rockies at White Sox
When: March 16, 5:05 PM ET
Where: Camelback Ranch, Glendale, AZ.
What To Watch For: This is arguably the best game of the final day, as both the White Sox and Rockies feature loaded rosters. The Rockies have power in both their lineup and pitching staff. The lineup is led by 2024 first rounder Charlie Condon, outfielder Cole Carrigg, young slugger Robert Calaz and Adael Amador. The pitching staff is sure to light up the radar gun with the combination of Chase Dollander and Brody Brecht leading the way. The White Sox are led by the lethal one-two punch of Noah Schultz and Hagen Smith. The White Sox might boast more big stuff arms than any club with Grant Taylor, Jairo Iriarte and Wikelman Gonzalez sure to flash big velocity and movement. The lineup, while not as star-studded as the White Sox pitching staff, does have have a deep group of bats. Kyle Teel and Edgar Quero combine to create the highest rated combination of catchers, while Colson Montgomery, Braden Montgomery and Chase Meidroth gives them depth all over the field.

Reds at Brewers
When: March 16, 7:40 p.m. PT
Where: American Family Fields of Phoenix, Phoenix, Ariz.
What To Watch For: Chase Burns struck out three and touched 100 mph three times in his pro debut this spring. That’s just a preview of what’s to come during spring breakout. Cam Collier made history by hitting the first homer in spring breakout history. He’ll be joined by Sal Stewart and Edwin Arroyo in the lineup. For the Brewers, Jesus Made was the talk of the offseason after he put up one of the more impressive numbers and data in the Dominican Summer League. At just 17, his potential for stardom keeps growing. Along with him, Cooper Pratt and Eric Bitoni were two players that showed promise in the batter’s box for Milwaukee.
