NOTABLE GRADUATIONS: OF Socrates Brito (19), RHP Yoshihisa Hirano (NR), RHP Matt Koch

TRENDING: A veteran D-backs club challenged for a playoff spot but fell short. A promising group of international prospects makes the future a bit brighter even though first-round pick Matt McLain didn’t sign.

STRENGTHS: The Diamondbacks have multiple intriguing prospects at several up-the-middle positions, namely shortstop, catcher and center field, many of whom have a chance to be impact players. The trade-off is that most of them are at least two years away from the majors. The group includes shortstops Jazz Chisholm and Gerardo Perdomo, catcher Daulton Varsho and center fielder Kristian Robinson. Arizona also have a trio of starting pitchers in Jon Duplantier, Taylor Widener and Taylor Clarke who are already big league ready or are expected to be soon.

WEAKNESSES: The upper-levels of the D-backs’ system is devoid of frontline position player prospects, and the organization’s rotation depth is depleted after Duplantier, Widener and Clarke. The system’s overall depth has taken a hit over the past two years due to win-now trades.

Colorado Rockies Farm System Overview For 2019

NOTABLE GRADUATIONS: 1B/3B Ryan McMahon (2), C Tom Murphy (12)

TRENDING:  The future looks bright in Denver, where the Rockies are coming off back-to-back postseason appearances and boast depth of position prospects, particularly infielders.

STRENGTHS:  The Rockies have an array of infielders who can hit, with Brendan Rodgers, Garrett Hampson, Colton Welker and Tyler Nevin all showing the ability to be impact offensive players. Behind them are Ryan Vilade and Grant Lavigne in the lower levels, giving the Rockies both high-end potential and depth. The organization also has a deep group of potential late-inning relievers, with Justin Lawrence, Robert Tyler and Reid Humphreys providing power stuff from the right side.

WEAKNESSES: The Rockies have few starting pitchers outside of Peter Lambert, who profiles as more of a back-end starter. That is mitigated by the Rockies having one of the best young rotations in baseball thanks to recent prospect graduates Kyle Freeland and German Marquez, among others. More problematic is a lack of outfielders, though full healthy seasons from David Dahl and Raimel Tapia would help.

NOTABLE GRADUATIONS: RHP Walker Buehler (1)

TRENDING:  Buehler looked like a staff ace by the end of 2018, and the NL pennant winners have even more rookie contributions on deck for 2019.

STRENGTHS:  The Dodgers have the best group of catching prospects in baseball without much competition. Keibert Ruiz leads the way as the No. 1 catcher prospect in the game, complemented by Will Smith, Connor Wong and 2018 international signee Diego Cartaya. While that side of the battery is unmatched, the Dodgers also have a large group of talented, close-to-the-majors pitchers. Caleb Ferguson and Dennis Santana have already reached the big leagues, while Dustin May, Tony Gonsolin and Mitchell White all have Double-A experience.

WEAKNESSES: The Dodgers don’t have a natural center fielder in the big leagues and don’t have a projected everyday one in the minors. Jeren Kendall’s setup and swing deficiencies make him unlikely to even become a major league reserve, while DJ Peters and Alex Verdugo fit in the corners only.

NOTABLE GRADUATIONS:LHP Joey Lucchesi (9), LHP Eric Lauer (12), Franchy Cordero (13), OF Franmil Reyes (NR), 3B Christian Villanueva (NR), RHP Phil Maton (NR)

TRENDING:  Incredible system depth elevates the Padres, thanks in part to adding Francisco Mejia at the 2018 trade deadline.

STRENGTHS:  Arms, arms and more arms. Even with the graduations of Joey Lucchesi and Eric Lauer, the Padres boast arguably the most impressive group of lefthanded pitching prospects in the game, with MacKenzie Gore, Adrian Morejon, Logan Allen and Ryan Weathers leading the way. Their stable of righthanders led by Chris Paddack and Luis Patino is one of the best and deepest as well.

WEAKNESSES: The Padres’ outfield crop is thin, though that’s largely because Hunter Renfroe, Manuel Margot and Franmil Reyes all recently graduated and became everyday big leaguers. Just three of the Padres’ Top 30 Prospects are outfielders and none of the top 15, though Josh Naylor’s development in left field could change that. The outfield is the one Achilles’ heel of the Padres currently, but it’s not an issue for the club moving forward given the young outfielders in the majors.

NOTABLE GRADUATIONS: OF Steven Duggar (8), LHP Andrew Suarez (10), RHP Reyes Moronta (15), OF Austin Slater (17), RHP Dereck Rodriguez (NR)

TRENDING: Adding No. 2 overall draft pick Joey Bart and No. 2 international prospect Marco Luciano in 2018 moves the talent arrow up slightly. A complete lack of system depth dims the future outlook.

STRENGTHS:  Picking at the top of the draft has obvious benefits. Catcher Joey Bart, the No. 2 overall pick in 2018, is one of the brightest but also safest prospects the Giants have had in years thanks to his track record of production combined with his power potential and defensive ability. The organization has some interesting young international signees as well.

WEAKNESSES:If the Giants are about to embark on their first rebuild in years, and they are starting from close to scratch. Most of the organization’s best prospects are several years away from San Francisco. After several years of trading away prospects to help the big league club, the Giants need to restock a farm system that has been thinned. The club has taken a high-risk, high-reward approach when drafting pitchers, but it now lacks both top-end starting pitchers and reliable, durable inning-eaters in the full-season minors.
