Mariners’ Jared Sundstrom Quietly Succeeds With Loud Tools

Among a Mariners 2023 draft class that already features big leaguers Ben Williamson and Logan Evans—not to mention Top 100 Prospects Colt Emerson and Jonny Farmelo—outfielder Jared Sundstrom is adding his name to the list of standouts by quietly filling up box scores.

Drafted in the 10th round out of UC Santa Barbara, Sundstrom hit .263/.380/.434 with 13 home runs and 26 stolen bases in 112 games for High-A Everett in 2024.

He’s continued to hit for power while showing off his speed in 2025. Through 48 games with Double-A Arkansas, he batted .239/.332/.438 with eight homers and 17 steals.

“When you look at (Sundstrom), he’s strong and he’s athletic,” Mariners farm director Justin Toole said. “He’s a threat to steal and he’s a threat to hit the ball out of the park. Any time you’re able to do both of those things, it’s a fun combination from a development standpoint.”

The jump from Everett to Arkansas is often a challenging one for Mariners prospects. Everett is one of the more hitter-friendly ballparks in the minors, while Arkansas is notoriously pitcher-friendly. Despite that, Sundstrom had continued to hit for power.

He also had improved his basestealing success in 2025. The organization has noticed improvements in his instincts that have led to him going 17-for-19 on steals this season.

“We encourage our players to take pride in running the bases,” Toole said, “and that team in Arkansas that he’s a part of has done a tremendous job of taking advantage of opportunities. Credit to Jared and his ability to walk in and make that a focus.

“Lead length and first steps and just the little tiny details of baserunning is something our group has done a great job of identifying and helping our players (with).”

If Sundstrom can maintain this production, it might not be long before he appears on a big league lineup card.

“Any time you look at trying to create major league value, one of the things we always talk about is we want players where we know what we’re gonna get,” said Toole. “That’s what (Sundstrom’s) been since he got here, and that’s really stood out.”
