Editor’s Note: This has been updated to reflect the news that Cam Smith and Kumar Rocker have both made Opening Day rosters.
With just a few days to go before the stateside Opening Day, 12 of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects have been told they will begin the season on their team’s active MLB roster, including four of the top six prospects in the game.
Last year, 20 Top 100 Prospects began the season on MLB active rosters.
For 2025, Dodgers righthander Roki Sasaki, the No. 1 prospect in baseball, has already made his MLB debut, tossing three innings in game two of the Dodgers-Cubs Tokyo Series in Japan last week. Cubs third baseman Matt Shaw, ranked 35th, also debuted in the series.
Meanwhile, Tigers righthander Jackson Jobe (No. 3) has been told he made the starting rotation, which was somewhat expected after he made the team’s playoff roster last season as a reliever. Red Sox second baseman Kristian Campbell (No. 4) is set to debut later this week.
Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews (No. 6) made his MLB debut late last season and will graduate from prospect status once he accrues just 12 at-bats this season.
Once you get outside the Top 10, there aren’t as many high-profile prospects who will be on Opening Day rosters. Those names include include:
- Kumar Rocker, RHP, Rangers (No. 20)
- Jacob Wilson, SS, Athletics (No. 38)
- Drake Baldwin, C, Braves (No. 53)
- Cam Smith, OF, Astros (No. 55)
- Heston Kjerstad, OF, Orioles (No. 81)
- AJ Smith-Shawver, RHP, Braves (No. 83)
