Monday's Stars

Jazz Chisholm, SS, D-backs. Few players have had a better day this year than the one Chisholm had yesterday. Chisholm homered twice and tripled as part of a 5-for-6 day. Chisholm hasn't hit for average this year, but the shortstop does have 15 home runs, second best in the Midwest League.

Jakson Reetz, C, Nationals. The high Class A Potomac catcher hasn't been much of a power threat this year, but he was yesterday. Reetz went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs, giving him five in 164 bats with Potomac.

Lucas Erceg, 3B, Brewers. Erceg's immense raw power has not translated into nearly as many home runs as expected so far, but July has shown the power binge  we've long expected. Yesterday he had the best game this season, going 4-for-4 with his 11th home run. Erceg has five home runs in his past nine games.

Brandon Lowe, 2B, Rays. Lowe reached Triple-A Durham a little over a month ago. Since then, he's been one of the best power hitters in the International League. The 24-year-old hit his 10th home run in just 129 Triple-A at-bats, giving him 18 overall this year.

Willie Calhoun, LF, Rangers. Calhoun has been on a tear. The 23-year-old went 2-for-3 yesterday with a double and two walks. This month he's hitting .460.

D.L. Hall, LHP, Orioles. Hall's great month got even better. The lefthander struck out 10 over six innings while allowing three hits and one run.

Nestor Cortes, LHP, Yankees. The Yankees lefty struck out 10 while allowing only two baserunners (one hit and one walk) over six scoreless innings.
