Baseball America Prospect Report—Aug. 17, 2021

Luis Campusano, C, Padres—Campusano went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored in Triple-A El Paso’s wild 12-11 win over Reno on Monday, continuing a quietly impressive summer. Campusano got off to a slow start after the Padres demoted him to Triple-A in May, but he’s been on a tear since the calendar turned to June. Campusano has hit .311/.381/.587 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 55 games since June 1, showing the mix of contact skills and power potential that made him a Top 50 prospect entering the 2021 season.

Brian Howard, RHP, Athletics—Like most pitchers who call Las Vegas home, the 6-foot-8 Howard has been a very different pitcher at home compared to on the road. Howard delivered another solid road start with five innings, four hits, one run allowed, one walk and three strikeouts in Las Vegas’ 7-3 win over Tacoma. Howard now has a 2.55 ERA in seven games (six starts) on the road this season, compared to an 8.92 ERA in 10 games (nine starts) at home.

Marty Costes, OF, Astros—Costes earned a promotion to Triple-A earlier this month and busted out in a big way Monday after a slow start with Sugar Land. The 25-year-old Maryland product went a combined 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Sugar Land’s doubleheader against Albuquerque and raised his average from .192 to .290 in the process. After going 1-for-12 in his first four games after being promoted, Costes is 8-for-19 (.421) in his last six games.
