Arizona Fall League Prospect Report — November 5, 2021

Juan Yepez, 1B, Cardinals — Yepez hit during the regular season at Double-A. Then he hit some more at Triple-A. Then he earned his first big league callup. Now Yepez is in the AFL, and guess what he's doing. That's right, he's hitting. On Thursday, he went 2-for-4, including his fifth home run of the season. The blast moved him into a three-way tie for second place with fellow Cardinals prospect Lars Nootbaar as well as Red Sox infield prospect Jeter Downs.

Ezequiel Tovar, SS, Rockies — Tovar is one of the easiest slam dunks to stick at shortstop in the sport. He's got incredible range, plenty of instincts and a strong enough arm to make all the throws required. He made a couple of those plays on Thursday, but also showed impressive juice on a line-drive home run just to the left of dead center field at Mesa's Sloan Park. His overall offensive output hasn't been good in the AFL—he's hitting just .172—but he showed signs of potential this season in the Low-A West League, where he produced an OPS of .856 with 11 homers over 72 games before moving to High-A Spokane. Tovar's outstanding glove should get him to the big leagues, but he could be a very intriguing player if his bat develops.

Brett Baty, 3B, Mets — Baty took immense steps forward this past season with his body and his output. He hit his way to Double-A, and produced an overall line of .292/.382/.473 between High-A and Double-A. The 21-year-old collected three singles and drove home one of his team's two runs (he had a chance to drive in another, but the potential score was tossed out at the plate by Cubs outfield prospect Nelson Velazquez, who has three outfield assists this week) in its shutout victory over Mesa.
