Andrew Salas Signs With Marlins For $3.7 Million In 2025 International Signing Period

The youngest member of the Salas family officially starts his path to the majors after inking his first professional contract, as Andrew Salas has agreed with the Marlins on a $3.7 million bonus.

The 16-year-old shortstop is considered one of the prized players in this year’s international market, similar to his older brothers, Twins infielder Jose Salas (who originally signed with the Marlins in 2019) and Padres catcher Ethan Salas. The Marlins have an international bonus pool of 7,555,500.

Born in Florida but signed as an international free agent out of Venezuela like his brothers, Salas is a 6-foot-2, 188-pound shortstop with sharp instincts and the ability to slow the game down on both sides of the ball. At the plate, he’s a switch-hitter who demonstrates excellent strike-zone awareness and a more polished swing from the left side, showing balance and the ability to drive the ball to the opposite-field gap with backspin.

Defensively, Salas is a strong shortstop with smooth movements and possesses a solid-average arm that could improve as he gets stronger. Though he lacks the explosive athleticism of some top shortstops, his advanced skill set gives him a solid chance to stick at the position.

Salas is well-prepared to adapt to the pro game given his upbringing and experience facing former major league talent playing with the Carabobo Marineros in Venezuela.
