2021 Tampa Bay Rays Instructional League Roster
It should come as no surprise that the deepest system in the minor leagues has a talented group of players at its instructional league. One of the system's biggest breakouts belonged to infielder Curtis Mead, who hit at each of his three stops (including a cameo in Triple-A) and in doing so was a part of three championships. Mead, who was acquired from the Phillies for lefthander Cristopher Sanchez, hit .321 (second best in the system) in his first year in full-season ball.
The only man who bested Mead was infielder Jonathan Aranda, who put up a .330 average with Double-A Montgomery. But that's not all. Aranda's on-base (.418) and slugging (.543) numbers were also tops in the system. He is among a host of talented upper-level players whom the Rays need to add to the 40-man roster this offseason in order to shield them from the Rule 5 draft.
At the lower levels, pay attention to infielder Willy Vasquez, whose .288 average was the third best in the Florida Complex League. His .382 on-base percentage was seventh on the circuit.
