2021 Atlanta Braves Instructional League Roster

The Braves’ instructional league group is small, but still has intriguing players. The clear headliner of the group is lefthander Jared Shuster, the first of two successive first-round picks Atlanta spent on Wake Forest pitchers over the last two seasons. Shuster was ranked No. 43 overall on the 2020 BA 500, and was the fourth-best lefty available in the class, behind Asa Lacy (Royals), Reid Detmers (Angels) and Garrett Crochet (White Sox). Shuster whiffed 90 in 70 innings in his professional debut.

Among the position players, perhaps the most intriguing name is Ambioris Tavarez, who signed in January, did not play in a game (the Braves didn’t field a team in the Dominican Summer League) and yet earned an invitation to join an extremely small group of players at Atlanta’s camp in North Port, Fla. Tavarez, 17, stood out as an amateur for strong hands and wrists evaluators believed would help him generate plenty of power, as well as a strong throwing arm that would help him stick on the left side of the infield. He’ll be worth keeping tabs on in 2022, when he makes his official professional debut.
