Morales jumped on evaluators' radars with an impressive showing at the National High School Invitational. He took a no-hitter into the fifth inning of the Huskies' opening game and then hit a double and triple the following game against top-ranked Archbishop McCarthy (Fla.) to help South Hills reach the semifinals. Morales is projectable at a lanky 6-foot-4 with promising plane to his fastball. His present stuff, however, has most evaluators believing he should go to college. Morales sits 86-88 mph and touches 90 with his fastball. His curveball is below-average at a loopy 67-69 mph and his changeup needs work but projects to average. Morales also has mechanical fixes to make, with a front side that collapses and flies open and at other times he collapses on his back leg, flattening out his stuff. Any team drafting Morales would need to be patient with his development. He is committed to Long Beach State.
