Carter was a regular on the showcase circuit in the summer leading up to his senior year, and he stood out for his promising speed. He ran the 60-yard dash in 6.53 seconds at the Perfect Game National Showcase, and he's a plus runner underway, though his speed often plays as more average in game action. Carter also played football and basketball in high school, and does not have as many reps as some of the more polished players in this year's class. He is a lefthanded hitter with quick hands, but a raw swing and a poor track record of getting the barrel to the ball against high-quality pitching, though his exposure to such pitching was limited entering last summer. Carter is seen as something of a lottery ticket because of his quick-twitch athleticism, and he is expected to be very signable.
