Cantu is one of the better high school hitters in this year's draft class. At the plate, there's little not to like. He understands the strike zone and he has a short, simple swing that allows him to hit line drives but also gives him the potential to hit for at least average power. Scouts are impressed with his drive and his work ethic. But where Cantu is going to play defensively is a much bigger question. Cantu has toyed with catching, but it's never really stuck and he's been forced to stick to hitting much of this spring because of a sore shoulder that is not thought to be a long-term issue. Cantu looks more comfortable at third base but his already-stout body and some stiffness to his actions lead most scouts to believe he'll eventually end up at first base. Cantu has a strong enough arm to potentially pitch (he'll sit in the high 80s off the mound) as well as hit at Texas Tech if he doesn't sign professionally out of high school.
