Few schools can approach Stanford's two-sport history, which includes such football stars as John Elway and John Lynch and former big leaguers such as Joe Borchard and Brian Johnson. The 6-foot, 197-pound Hoffpauir was an honorable mention all-conference safety in the fall for the Cardinal football team, but in the spring he told local media and scouts that he planned to pursue a professional baseball career. He had a stronger sophomore season in baseball, hitting .324/.379/.507 for a team that reached the super regional round. He hit just four homers in an injury-plagued 2015 that included a wrist injury; three of those homers came in one weekend against Cal. When healthy, Hoffpaiur fits the left field profile, with athleticism, bat speed and plus raw power. He's rough around the edges defensively, and his lack of baseball experience shows with his undisciplined plate approach and struggles to identify and lay off breaking balls.
