Brakeman has a long track record, which will help him after arm soreness limited him to nine starts this spring for a disappointing 24-32 Stanford team. A USA Baseball 16U alumnus (2010), the Florida prep product was expected to anchor Stanford's rotation this spring after a strong showing in the Cape Cod League last summer and a big finish for the Cardinal's 2014 super regional squad. Brakeman pitched 5 1/3 innings in relief against Vanderbilt in last year's super regional in one outing, and then made nine appearances (four starts) in the Cape, posting a 47-7 strikeout-walk ratio in 33 innings. In the Cape, Brakeman was electric, with a fastball that peaked in the 93-95 mph range and a tight slider that was average to above-average. His changeup was his money pitch, with sink and run helping it be a plus pitch that missed bats. Brakeman's whole arsenal lacked crispness and was down overall this spring, though, with his fastball sitting 87-91 mph. At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Brakeman may not have the size or durability to start, but his lengthy track record should still get him drafted high if he proves signable.
