Child was on USA Baseball's 2008 16-and-under team with Jake Rodriguez, who wound up being his teammate in college. He again represented his country with Team USA on last summer's college national team. Child has a burly frame at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds and has been an effective starter for the Beavers, albeit mostly in midweek games. Most scouts see his professional future in the bullpen. His fastball was in the 92-95 mph range last year and 91-94 out of Team USA's bullpen last summer. He opened this season pitching more in the 88-91 mph range, though his velocity picked up later in the year and he was touching 93. He also has a slider that's a plus pitch at times. Scouts don't love his arm action and he has effort in his delivery, which would further indicate a move to relief.
