Ripken Select Camp – Ripken Baseball

Ripken Select is an exclusive opportunity to participate in the ultimate one-day infield camp at The Ripken Experience Aberdeen, featuring direct instruction from none other than Cal & Bill Ripken.

Cal Ripken Jr., Bill Ripken Hand Out Knowledge at 2nd Annual Ripken Select by Carlos Collazo

This is the experience that 29 of the top high school infielders in the Mid-Atlantic area went through Friday afternoon, during the second annual Ripken Select. Ripken Jr. watched as players went through batting practice, offering tips here and there on situational approaches and mechanics, and diving more in-depth into the nuances of hitting whenever a player asks.

One field over is Bill Ripken, who’s working with infielders in his signature, much less somber, style. Enthusiastically screaming “Yes!” at the top of his lungs when a shortstop uses the proper footwork and glove technique on a backhand in the hole, or—equally enthusiastically—dogging a player who botches a throw or gets a bit too flashy with his movements before using that as a teaching moment.

The Staff

Bill Ripken began his career with the Baltimore Orioles in 1987 under the direction of his father Cal Ripken, Sr., and alongside his brother Cal Ripken, Junior. This was the first and only time in Major League Baseball history that a father simultaneously managed two of his sons.

After his playing career, Bill joined his brother in the formation of Ripken Baseball, and also became a co-founder of The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in memory of their father.

In 2009, Bill joined the cast of MLB Network as a studio analyst, and has since been recognized as an Emmy Award winner for Most Outstanding Sports Personality.

Cal Ripken, Jr. is baseball’s all-time Iron Man. He retired from the game in 2001 after a Hall of Fame career that spanned over the course of 21 seasons, all with the Baltimore Orioles. While he’s best known for his incredible streak of 2,632 consecutive games played, he also redefined the position of shortstop.

Since the inception of The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, he has become an international ambassador for the game, and has focused on growing it The Ripken Way.
