By Mike DiGiovanna
The foundational pieces in Anaheim are in place.
Mike Trout signed what essentially amounts to a lifetime contract extension. Shohei Ohtani -- under team control through 2023 -- is returning from Tommy John surgery. World Series champion Anthony Rendon joined the middle of the order this winter. And on the farm, Jo Adell is near-ready.
Now, the impetus is on an Angels organization that hasn't won a playoff game in 10 years, and hasn't even posted a winning season in each of the four, to act on it.
Athleticism reigns supreme in their system, especially at the top. But there are still legitimately concerns -- especially lack of depth on the corners and injury concerns among a number of the better-known arms -- leading the system to have a general "mixed bag" feeling entering 2020.
Still, there are several pieces, especially a recent influx of high-ceiling Latin American prospects, that have considerable ceilings, signaling the future could be bright if the Angels can develop their youngsters.
