2019 High School Top 50
Baseball America’s High School Top 50 rankings are selected through a poll of representatives from the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. The country is split into eight different regions, with region chairs nominating teams from their geographic areas for consideration for the Top 50 rankings nationwide.
In the final High School team rankings of the year, our preseason No. 1 team, Argyle (Texas) High, remains in the top spot after a 40-1-1 season that culminated in a Texas 4A state championship.
Argyle’s only loss on the season came on March 8 to Carroll (Southlake, Texas) High and while the loss looking like a bad one at the time, Carroll went on to win the state’s 6A state championship.
Throughout the season, including our preseason top 50, Argyle held the top spot of the high school rankings in five of our seven updates and feel no lower than No. 4 in any week. Coach Ricky Griffin’s program outscored opponents 361-98 over the course of the season and finished on a 28-game winning streak.
Cypress (Calif.) High finishes the season as the No. 2 team in the country after a 32-3 record and a Division I CIF Southern Section Championship victory over Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) High, which ranks as the No. 7 team in the country.
Checking in at No. 3 is our program of the year in 2018, Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.) High, which went 36-4 and won the Georgia 7A state championship for the second straight year and the eighth time in program history.
Blanchard (Okla.) High is the biggest riser of among the top 10 teams throughout the season, having gone most of the year unranked, but went a perfect 39-0 en route to the Oklahoma 4A state championship.
Rounding out the top five is Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.) High, which went 42-3 and won the Tennessee 3A state championship, outscoring opponents 325-98 on the season.
The Southern region leads all others with 13 teams ranked among the top 50, followed by the West region (11) and then the Southeast region (8).
