2019 High School Top 25

Orange Luthern celebrates winning its third consecutive NHSI championship.

Baseball America’s High School Top 25 rankings are selected through a poll of representatives from the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. The country is split into eight different regions, with region chairs nominating teams from their geographic areas for consideration for the Top 25 rankings nationwide.

In the fourth installment of our High School Top 25 rankings, the top two teams from our last update have flipped spots, with Orange (Calif.) Lutheran becoming the No. 1 team for the first time this season, and former top team Argyle (Texas) High slotting in at No. 2.

It's been a steady progression up the rankings for Orange Lutheran this season, starting out at No. 43 on our preseason Top 50 list, then jumping into the top 10 on our first in-season list and being named the No. 2 team in our previous update. While Argyle's record is currently more impressive than Orange Lutheran's, wins and losses hardly tell the entire story when attempting to rank the best teams in the nation.

Orange Lutheran plays one of the tougher schedules in the country in the Trinity League—arguably the toughest league in Southern California—and recently became the Trinity League Champions with a 14-1 record in the division. That comes after winning USA Baseball's National High School Invitational earlier this spring.

Orange Lutheran has consistently played top competition and consistently proven themselves to be the best of the group. This week, Orange Lutheran and other California teams will begin CIF Sectional play, which is sure to shake up the rankings come next week while also creating some tough choices for committee members, who will be forced to sort through regular season performance and playoff success.

Many other teams throughout the country are set to start playoffs as well.

The biggest riser in this week's Top 25 update is Georgetown (Texas) High, which went from unranked to the No. 6 team in the country with a 25-2 record. Georgetown is now the third-highest ranked team in the southern region, behind only Argyle and Colleyville (Texas) Heritage.
