Baseball America’s High School team rankings are selected through a poll of representatives from the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. The country is split into eight different regions, with region chairs nominating teams from their geographic areas for consideration for the top 25 rankings nationwide. Below is the initial top 50 ranking, though many schools in the south are already underway with their seasons.

After going 37-0 last season, Argyle (Texas) opens the 2019 season as the No. 1 team on Baseball America’s first High School Top 50 list of the season.

Argyle finished the 2018 season as the No. 13 team in the country and was the highest-ranked team to finish without losing a single game. Coach Ricky Griffin led the club to a Texas 4A state championship.

The 2018 High School Team of the Year, Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.) enters the first 2019 team ranking at No. 7 after finishing in the top spot a year ago after winning a seventh state title in Georgia. While Parkview has established itself as one of the top programs in the country, another Georgia team starts the year off ranked higher, as Pope (Marietta, Ga.) starts at No. 3 overall.

A number of southern powerhouse programs round out the top 10, with Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) at No. 2, Colleyville (Texas) Heritage at No. 4, Doral (Fla.) Academy at No. 5, Huntington Beach (Calif.) at No. 6, Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) High at No. 8, Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.) at No. 9 and St. Xavier (Louisville) at No. 10.

The Baseball Coaches Association will meet every other week to rank the top 25 teams throughout the season, before expanding to 50 once again for the final season ranking in June.
