Brett Netzer

Netzer provides scouts another offensive second baseman in the college ranks in a draft year thin on college bats. He's athletic enough to be an above-average runner, and he takes aggressive, confident swings. He got off to a strong start before falling off a bit, hitting .342 after batting .384 as a sophomore, but most scouts still grade him as at least an average hitter, with some going above-average thanks to his bat speed and strong strike zone judgment (more walks than strikeouts the last two seasons). His power is mostly to the gaps, and scouts have to project a bit to give the 6-foot, 192-pounder average power, though he showed solid pop in the Cape Cod League (.283/.360/.424, 8 XBH in 99 at-bats) last summer. Netzer has some rough edges defensively at second base but should be average, with enough arm strength to turn the double play.
