Thomas Jankins

The last Quinnipiac player selected in the top ten rounds was Turk Wendell, who went in the fifth round in 1988 and pitched in the big leagues for more than a decade. Jankins could be the next Bobcat to go that high. He's been the ace of Quinnipiac's staff for three years. Jankins has a muscular 6-foot-3, 200 pound frame. He generates above-average sink on his fastball, which fluctuates in velocity from start to start; on a good night, Jankins can sit at 89-92 and touch 93. On a bad night, he'll pitch in the upper 80s. He's also shown flashes with both a curveball and a changeup. Scouts view Jankins as projectable because of his lack of exposure to professional coaching. Many teams crosschecked him this spring, while others never thought of him that highly.
