Dirks split time between starting and relieving as a sophomore in 2013, then found a home as Cal Baptist's closer this spring, going 4-1, 2.85 with eight saves, 52 strikeouts and 15 walks over 41 innings. Physical and durable at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds, Dirks has plenty of arm strength, attacking the strike zone with a 91-94 mph fastball that will play in a pro bullpen. His aggressive temperament and poise make him a good fit for tight late-game situations as well. His slider is below-average but enough to keep hitters off his fastball.
