York's father Mike was a two-way player who was a 40th-round pick in 1982 and wound up reaching the big leagues for parts of two seasons as a pitcher in 1990-91. His son is similarly sized and was originally recruited out of Basic High in Henderson, Nev., signing with Saint Mary's. He changed his mind about college in the summer of 2014, though, and enrolled in College of Southern Nevada. He injured his arm that summer and missed 2015, but has returned strong in 2016, emerging as the staff ace and leading the wood-bat Scenic West Conference. York has dominated the league in short bursts, as most league games are seven-inning affairs; his season high is five innings pitched; he leads the conference in ERA in a 6-0, 1.62 season, with 11.4 strikeouts per nine innings. York's fastball sits 90-94 and reaches 95 consistently, and he's got a fast arm and athleticism in his 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. He's signed to Arizona State for next year.
