Smith is an athletic, 6-foot-1 righthander with a quick arm. His velocity ticked up and he became more consistent as the season progressed, and he had some teams interested in him inside the top ten rounds by the end of the season. Smith's fastball peaked at 95 but more often worked at 90-92. His strikethrowing and slider both improved as the season went along. Some scouts who saw him early saw him as generic, while others were enthused by his athleticism and quick arm.
