A 6-foot-5, 240-pound righthander, McDonald has dealt with some injuries during his time at Virginia Tech, but found more success on the field after he transitioned from the starting rotation to the bullpen full time. After posting ERAs north of 6.00 in each of his first three seasons while spending time in the rotation, McDonald lowered that to 4.45 this spring in 29 relief appearances, with 67 strikeouts and 27 walks.
