Abbott is better known as the three-time state MVP for Curtis High's water polo team, and he was committed to Long Beach State to play that sport, not baseball. However, Abbott had a strong spring albeit on a poor Curtis team, batting .438 with 10 extra-base hits in 67 at-bats. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder wasn't an Area Code Games participant but did go to some pre-draft workouts and show plus raw power.
