  Escobar and Colombian outfielder Harold Ramirez were the Pirates' top international signings in 2011. Coincidentally, they have the same birthday. While Ramirez has become one of the top prospects in the organization, Escobar did not match his production at short-season Jamestown in 2013. Signed for $570,000, Escobar has an intriguing blend of above-average speed, ample range in center field and arm strength to spare. He could become a leadoff threat if he develops better contact skills and plate discipline to improve his on-base percentage. While the Pirates may advance Escobar to low Class A West Virginia in 2014, some in the organization feel he would be better served by beginning in extended spring training and repeating the New York-Penn League.
