Izturis has richer baseball bloodlines than just about any other player in the Mariners system. His father Cesar was a big league shortstop for 13 seasons and now runs an academy in Venezuela, while his uncle Maicer spent 11 seasons in the majors as a utility infielder. The Mariners signed the junior Izturis for $550,000 in 2016, and he made his pro debut the next year in the Dominican Summer League. Because of the amount of time he spent around major league ballparks in his youth, Izturis' feel for the game is very advanced for his age. He's polished and has good instincts, and he's an adept situational hitter with outstanding bat control and plate discipline. He's more of a line-drive hitter without a lot of power, but he has worked hard to increase his strength. Izturis is a natural second baseman but with the ability to handle shortstop. His arm is below-average now but projects to be average with added strength. While not a twitchy athlete, he's an instinctive fielder who plays under control with good hands and footwork. Izturis should be ready to head to the U.S. for an assignment to the Rookie-level Arizona League in 2018.
