Evans ranked inside the top 100 on the final iteration of the 2024 BA 500, but it was still a major recruiting win for coach Jay Johnson and his staff that he made it to campus. While just three of his 19 appearances were starts, Evans fared well in an extended role, most notably turning in a quality start against a loaded Tennessee lineup. Overall, he pitched to a 2.05 ERA with 71 strikeouts to 19 walks across 52.2 innings. All three of his offerings—a mid-to-upper-90s fastball, mid-80s slider and mid-80s split changeup—generate whiffs, particularly the latter two. His fastball plays well at the top of the zone thanks to its riding life and high spin, while he spins his slider effectively and does a nice job killing spin on his split changeup, which flashes plus with late diving life. Evans’ two secondary offerings generated whiff rates of 47% and 48%, respectively, and he is a good athlete who could potentially headline the defending national champion’s rotation as soon as next spring. -

Evans is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound righthander who has been an up-arrow prospect over the last three years thanks to a great base of athleticism and velocity that has consistently tracked up and up. He threw a fastball in the 91-93 mph range during the 2023 showcase circuit and has run the pitch up to 95 at peak velocity. Evans’ heater has a bit of armside running life and is backed by a trio of intriguing secondary pitches. He throws both a slider and a curveball, but the pitches are inconsistent and can blend together at times. The slider is typically in the 80-82 mph range with solid spin rates around 2,500 rpm, though the pitch will back up to his arm side at times. Evans throws his curveball in the upper 70s with more deliberate top-down shape that can steal a strike, but the pitch will often hang up in the middle of the zone. His most advanced secondary is probably a 78-82 mph split-changeup with low spin that features impressive diving action. Evans is a scattered strike-thrower, but he’s also a two-way player at Houston’s St. Pius X High who has yet to focus exclusively on pitching. He is committed to LSU and is expected to be a tough sign but has exciting upside and top-four rounds talent.

Evans is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound righthander who has been an up-arrow prospect over the last two and a half years or so, with a great base of athleticism and velocity that has continued to trend upwards. He has a powerful arm and throws a low-90s fastball that has gotten up to 95 with a bit of arm-side running life. He has thrown a pair of breaking balls: a slider in the 80-82 mph range and a curveball in the upper 70s. Both pitches are inconsistent currently and need more separation and consistent shape to get to their solid-average potential. His most exciting secondary is a 78-82 mph split-change that he spins in the 800-1,100 rpm range and has impressive tumbling action. With more command of his entire pitch mix Evans has exciting upside. He is committed to LSU and is also a solid amateur hitter and infielder.
