Kuhns pitched his way into Tennessee’s weekend rotation by season’s end and compiled a 5.40 ERA with 40 strikeouts to 16 walks across 36.2 innings. He’s also made waves this summer on the Cape, as through 13.1 innings (three starts) he’s allowed just two earned runs with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 20-to-1. Kuhns already boasts impressive stuff, but it should only continue to tick up as he adds strength to his lanky frame. Kuhns’ fastball has been into the upper 90s with carry up in the zone, and his best secondary pitch is an upper-70s-to-low-80s curveball that he can spin in the 3,000 rpm range. The pitch has plenty of sharpness and two-plane tilt. Kuhns has also thrown a slider with more sweeping shape and has occasionally mixed in a changeup and a splitter. Expect him to compete for the Friday starter job in 2026. -

Kuhns showed some of the best pure stuff in the 2024 prep class, but made it to campus at Tennessee despite a top 60 draft ranking. He pitched his way into Tennessee’s weekend rotation as a freshman in 2025, posting a 5.40 ERA over 36.2 innings with a 23.7% strikeout rate and 9.5% walk rate. After the season, Kuhns made three starts in the Cape Cod League where he posted a 20:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 13.1 innings. A 6-foot-3, 190-pound righthander, Kuhns has a fastball that averages 94 mph and has been up to 98 with the physical projection to expect more velocity in the future. He has a high-spin curveball in the 78-82 mph range that eclipses 3,000 rpm at its best, and he will also mix in a low-80s slider, a cutter around 90 mph and a mid-80s changeup. -

The projection arrows are pointing in the right direction for Kuhns, a Pennsylvania high school pitcher who has some of the best stuff in the 2024 class and should have a lot more in the tank. He’s a lanky, elastic righthander with lots of room on his slender 6-foot-3, 177-pound frame to add weight. Added strength would help amplify a fastball that has been up 97 mph with riding life up in the zone and solid control for his age. Kuhns throws with a long arm action from a higher arm slot and features a bit of trunk tilt toward first base as he delivers to the plate. He was inconsistent this spring with his velocity, at times pitching more in the 89-92 mph range, but he should have a plus heater in the future with a chance for multiple quality secondaries. His best secondary now is a 78-82 mph curveball with spin rates approaching 3,000 rpm with sharp, two-plane biting action. He also has toyed with a slider that has more sweeping shape and has thrown both a changeup and a splitter. The latter has hard dropping action but needs a bit more refinement. Kuhns is old for the class and will be 19 on draft day, and if he makes it to campus at Tennessee he’ll be draft-eligible once again in 2026.

He’s a lanky, elastic righthander with lots of room on his slender 6-foot-3, 177-pound frame to add weight and grow a fastball that has been up to 95 mph with riding life up in the zone and solid control for his age. With his arm speed, Kuhns should be throwing even harder once he gets stronger. The separator for Kuhns, though, is his curveball, a pitch he throws with power at 78-81 mph and tight rotation with spin rates approaching 3,000 rpm. It’s a sharp breaking ball that projects to be plus and should continue to be a big swing-and-miss pitch in pro ball. He’s added a slider as well, showing the same innate feel to spin that pitch with tight rotation. Kuhns also has thrown a changeup and a splitter. The changeup has taken a significant step forward, with lively fading action away from lefties, and his splitter is another pitch he has shown feel for and could become a bigger factor for him with more repetitions. Kuhns is old for the class and will be 19 on draft day and a draft-eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus at Tennessee.
