Sellers started his college career at Washington State, where he pitched out of the bullpen in 2019 before heading to NAIA’s Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He excelled as a starter there and then transferred to Oregon State, where he continued to pitch in a starting role and posted a 5.13 ERA over 14 starts and 66.2 innings, with a 33% strikeout rate and 10.1% walk rate. Sellers has a 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame and pitches heavily off an 89-91 mph fastball that touches 93 and has plus carry, with nearly 20 inches of induced vertical break. Despite the velocity, Sellers generated a 25% miss rate on the fastball, and also mixed in an effective low-80s changeup and 12-to-6 curveball in the mid 70s. He hasn’t landed his curveball in the zone much, so he’ll either need to improve his feel for the pitch or develop another breaking ball to be a better in-zone offering that keeps hitters from hunting his fastball.
