Merrigan began his collegiate career at Georgia State, then transferred to Chipola JC for a year. Then, as a junior, he played at North Carolina. Merrigan transferred again, and had a strong senior season at Georgia-Gwinnett. He doesn't have home run power, but he made lots of contact this season, batting over .400. He has some speed and arm strength.
