A small and athletic center fielder, West is listed at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds. While he isn’t physically imposing, he does have a sound, disciplined approach at the plate with a history of walking more than he’s struck out and an ability to use the entire field. His power is well below-average currently and given his size and physical projection, isn’t likely to be a huge part of his game moving forward, with more of a line drive to the gaps offensive approach where his plus speed could allow him to grab extra bases. Adding strength to his compact frame could still help improve West’s overall offensive profile, even if it’s more of a speed and on-base lefthanded profile than one that fits in the middle of the lineup. His plus speed should allow him to stick in center field and be a good defender at the position, with solid instincts and route-running ability. West is committed to UCLA, where he might need to head and prove his offensive impact and ability.
