After logging just five innings last spring at UCLA, Jacobs enjoyed a breakout 2024 campaign at Arizona State in which he posted a 4.75 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 66.1 innings. This summer, Jacobs fired five shutout innings across two starts on the Cape before enjoying a successful stint with Team USA’s Collegiate National Team. The 6-foot-1 lefthander features a low-90s fastball that has been up to 95 with riding life through the zone, two distinct breaking balls in a low-80s slider—the more effective of the two—and a high-70s curveball and a mighty effective low-80s changeup that generated a 46% whiff rate this spring. Jacobs this spring will again headline the Sun Devils’ rotation. -
School: Huntington Beach (Calif.) HS Committed/Drafted: UCLA
Age At Draft: 18.1
A 6-foot, 189-pound lefthander, Jacobs is young for the class and shows a solid three-pitch mix. While his fastball isn’t overpowering now, he has been up to 94 and will sit in the 88-91 mph range, with a solid changeup and curveball to go with it. Jacobs turned in a solid outing at USA Baseball’s National High School Invitational, and in general he throws solid strikes and competes. He has solid spin on his breaking ball and in general draws praise for his pitchability, though there are scouts who think he is going to be a reliever in the long run. Without a pitch that looks above-average or plus presently, many teams could be inclined to let him get to campus at UCLA, where he could boost his stock and grow into more velocity in three years.
