Smith is a standout runner who ranked among the top four players last summer at East Coast Pro in both the 60-yard dash (6.43 seconds) and the 10-yard split (1.48 seconds). He’s an impressive, quick-twitch athlete who also has plenty of physical projection with a tall and lean, 6-foot-4, 177-pound frame that should add plenty of strength and muscle as he develops. While Smith tested well as an athlete at the event, he also showed some significant swing and miss and swing decision questions that could limit his offensive upside. He has the speed to be an impact center fielder if he doesn’t stick on the infield, and his strong arm could be an asset wherever he winds up defensively. Smith is the sort of raw player who could use more refinement and offensive polish in college at Mississippi, and he’ll be a draft-eligible sophomore in 2024 if he does make it to campus. Smith will be 19 years old on draft day.
