Drafted in the 12th round (371st overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2014
Filliben will go as far as his bat takes him. He started at shortstop as a freshman but a wrist injury during summer ball and limited him as a sophomore and led to surgery and a medical redshirt in his third year. He has been healthy this season and has had a breakout campaign (.293/.374/.498), getting interest in the top six to eight rounds. His below-average speed limits his range, and he fits best at third base at the next level. He may eventually end up at first base or the outfield corners. His power is ahead of his hit tool presently. While Filliben makes frequent contact (12 percent career strikeout rate), he doesn't show the ability to consistently impact the ball when he is not driving it out of the ballpark, sporting a career BABIP of .292.
